Bas Dirks

Portrait pastel sheet on a pale pink-grey ground of rubbed washes, white scribbled strokes and charcoal grain. A nervous tangle of black, purple and red line gathers low on the sheet — doubled, erased and redrawn — with ochre bars underneath, and flings limbs and small satellites upward: red knots, a blue flick, sparks of crimson. Restless and atmospheric, drawing and weather at once.
